East India House (Museum of Gothenburg)
This museum focuses on the history--archaeological, cultural, technical, and medical--of Gothenburg and its environs. There is an array of interesting permanent exhibits, including displays from the Viking era and unique artifacts found in the area.

Göteborgs Konstmuseum
Göteborgs Konstmuseum is the leading art museum of Gothenburg, with a good collection of modern art, notably of the French impressionists. Bonnard, Cézanne, van Gogh, and even Picasso are represented, along with sculptures by Milles and Rodin.

Goteborg Maritime Center
Located on the harbor, this museum is partly aboard the destroyer Smeland, equipped with guns and torpedoes, and the Fryken. In authentic settings, you can see lightships, steamships, and tugboats, among other watercraft. There are cafés at the center and on the quay.

Rohsska Museum of Arts and Crafts
This museum houses a large collection of European furnishings, china, glass, pottery, and Asian artifacts plus permanent and temporary exhibits of modern handcrafts and industrial design. Among the exhibits are books, silver, and Chinese and Japanese art. The museum presents lecture series and guided tours.

The Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum, Slottsskogen (031/775-24-00), displays stuffed animals from all over the world, including the only stuffed blue whale. Ecological displays are presented, along with an impressive collection of fauns from all over the world.
